Creating connections, leveraging interest
The University of British Columbia’s Climate Action Plan is part of a larger commitment made by the University to be a leader in broad sustainability reflecting social and environmental equity. When staff at the University of British Columbia’s Sustainability Office began to develop their Climate Action Plan (CAP), they knew that the plan would only be successful if it actively included the on-campus community. The team needed to engage people on campus, and to have them contribute to the CAP. They enlisted Junxion to create that connection.
Junxion developed a comprehensive communications strategy for on-campus climate action consultation. The strategy included extensive outreach to the community, including students, faculty, residents, contractors, and other on-campus personnel. Junxion determined who the target audience was and how to most effectively engage them. Junxion developed key messages around the CAP, and delivered these messages to the target audience.
Outcomes
- Communication strategy
- Web 2.0 construction
- Workshop facilitation
- Community activation
Junxion built an interactive website to reach the on-campus community and harness their participation in developing a vision for the Climate Action Plan. Junxion assisted recruitment to three visioning workshops, and provided information and support on the Climate Action Plan at technical workshops. As part of the web activation strategy, Junxion developed three distinct calls to action for the UBC community.
Junxion was instrumental in providing initial outreach, which continues to contribute to UBC’s Climate Action Plan success.
