Case Study: DA Architects and Planners

Updating a strong brand for the future and connecting with the community

DA Architects + Planners (formerly Downs/Archambault Architects) is one of Vancouver’s most respected architectural firms, widely known for its design of landmark buildings including Vancouver’s Library Square, the Pan Pacific Hotel and Conference Centre, and many others.

How we helped

  • Market research
  • Stakeholder consultation
  • Brand and opportunities analysis
  • Re-branding and reputation management
  • HR strategy

DA wanted to evaluate its reputation, processes and approaches to ensure continued success, and to attract and retain architectural talent in a competitive job market. The firm was faced with the challenge of celebrating their accomplished forty-year history while presenting a forward-thinking presence that highlighted their recent projects. They engaged Junxion Strategy to develop a strategic reputation management plan. It started by conducting a comprehensive research and discovery phase, including key stakeholder consultations, more than 20 formal and informal interviews, a best practices review, industry research, and document reviews.

Junxion’s strategic plan addressed branding, human resources, media and marketing. Integral to this plan was helping the firm articulate their image and story while ensuring this discourse was embraced internally at all levels. Junxion suggested ways to engage staff in creating the DA story and articulating it in a meaningful way, while keeping it consistent with broader marketing efforts. The strategic plan also outlined roughly 40 specific recommendations on how to effectively market to key audiences. The recommendations included strategies to raise agency profile and public awareness through increased media coverage, as well as ways to create affinity among younger audiences, differentiate themselves from other firms, and to target decision-makers and the people who influence them. The brand platform included a new logo and a full suite of promotional marketing materials. A new website was also designed and features an interactive map of all DA’s current projects, highlighting the firm’s impressive scope of work. The website also showcases the DA team and the firm’s accomplished list of past projects that helped shape Vancouver’s landscape.

To further promote and solidify DA’s new brand, Junxion produced a coffee-table book, which recounts DA’s forty-year history and features professional photographs of their architectural landmarks. The book was given to guests of a special launch event, which was held to celebrate DA’s new look and direction. Junxion was responsible for the design and content of the launch invitation and was instrumental in helping DA partner with event planning agency, Amuse Consulting.
