CCS study informs British government policy

In 2009, the British Minister of Energy & Climate Change declared the U.K.’s intention to be a global leader in the development and use of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology.

CO2cloudAs part of Britain’s efforts to benchmark its performance in this arena, Junxion Strategy and M.K. Jaccard and Associates were invited to conduct an analysis of current and forthcoming CCS technology and policy regulation in Canada, to identify expectations around Canada’s plans to manage CCS, and to make recommendations to address any identified gaps.

We examined the existing and forthcoming regulatory environments around CCS in Canada, offered domestic and international government stakeholder perspectives on CCS technology and regulations, and identified specific emerging regulatory gaps.  We also provided detailed recommendations to address some of those gaps, made specific implementation recommendations for Canada as well as other countries, and identified bilateral opportunities for the British Consulate-General and the Canadian government to work together.

This project focused on exploring strategies to deal to reduce greenhouse gases, and global partnerships to develop them. It is a sustainability-related government policy analysis.
