In 2007, the City of Coquitlam began a comprehensive update of the Southwest Coquitlam Area Plan for the first time in almost 20 years. Integral to the success of the update was input from residents to help develop a clear vision of the community’s future. In order to engage its citizens, the city held the “Get Snapping” photo contest, which invited residents to take pictures of their favourite spots in Southwest Coquitlam.

The city partnered with Junxion Strategy to circulate the “Get Snapping” message to the public in an engaging and informative manner. In just three weeks, Junxion was able to deliver a comprehensive promotional program and provide the city with insight into communicating with its target audience. Junxion wrote, designed and produced a four-page newspaper insert detailing information about the photo contest and explaining the city’s plan to update Southwest Coquitlam.

The resulting insert was informative and accessible, and the design integrated Coquitlam’s city colours with a fresh, friendly approach. Junxion also included a questionnaire in the insert to encourage a dialogue between the city and its residents.

In addition to the insert, Junxion designed a poster for display throughout the city and a quarter-page advertisement that ran in the local newspaper to ensure comprehensive circulation. All of these elements were essential in communicating the goals of the Area Plan update and engaging residents.

Throughout the process, Junxion provided strategic advice on the most effective way to introduce the Area Plan project to Coquitlam’s residents.
